Rita Sketching

I was tempted to do a contour drawing while Rita was focused on her nature journal at the top of the trail from Buster Brown Field.

I tucked this sketch into the fold over part of my handmade accordion sketchbook, ready to add watercolor washes later.
June 28, 2018 = 7:30pm Back in the studio on Thursday night, I did a live broadcast of some additions and corrections to my North Cascades nature journal. See the replay on periscope.tv/michelecoopart
Some souvenirs of our weekend in the North Cascades
My 19 minute demo on Periscope includes tips on making corrections and using watercolor, watercolor pencil and pen.

Day 21, Wind in the Trees

Add caption
Wind in the trees, Day 21 for #worldwatercolormonth I just wanted you to hear them whispering in the wind.
Wind in the Trees

These are the trees I planted 40 years ago with our children. Squirrels scamper up and down the trunks and a hawk uses the tallest ones as a lookout. Hummingbirds rest on the twigs, looking over my garden for something to sip. Here's a link to my 11 second video.

As usual, I am playing fast and loose with the "daily" prompts for WorldWatercolorMonth. I acutally just finished painting this today! 7/23/2017"Getting Wet"--I see there's still time, so I might find a way to add that one in as well. :)

The Sketchbook Project, Summer and the Olympic Sculpture Park

The Sketchbook Project is coming to Seattle Thursday through Saturday, Aug 13, 14, 15----this week!
Thursday night, from 5:00-8:00pm it's part of the Summer at SAM event with music, a free sketchbook binding and sketching project, food trucks and more! More info here.

Aaaaaand, my sketchbook will be there! #S146463 by Michele Cooper (just one "L") It's in the category, "Wanderer", titled "Not all who Wander are Lost."
I went back three days in a row for this fold out at Jennings park last July.
My sketchbook has quite a few fold outs, so I didn't have this one digitized. So if you want to see it in person in Seattle, better get on over there! I did a quick page through video here, but you know everything is better in person. :)

Trees

Original Watercolor
7"x10" center of foldout
Sketchbook Project, Limited Edition

Here's another page from my sketchbook. It's the center section of an accordion foldout. It has another section either side of it, each 7"x5".

We had a long winter and the transition was almost immediate into spring. Another day in early April, and I don't think I would have caught the change.

I'll post more about this series of three sketches soon.

The Sketchbook Project, Limited Edition

Original Sketches from my Sketchbook Project, Limited Edition
7"x18" Accordion Fold Section

Now that this has been sent in, and the deadline has passed, I thought you might like to get a peek inside my sketchbook. Visit here for more information on the whole project.

I removed the thin paper from the original Moleskine sketchbook provided by the project and replaced it with 140 lb. CP Fabriano Artistico watercolor paper. Directions on how to rebind your sketchbook here.

Every contributor to the Sketchbook Project Limited Edition Vol. 1 will be included in a series of art books documenting the project. Together, the series will provide insight into the imagination and process of each artist participating in the project. Bound by the Brooklyn Art Library Press and hand-finished in our Brooklyn workshop, the book series will be published in the fall of 2012.
