Artist's Model by Day, Salad by Night

My Periscope broadcast this afternoon was about red pigments in watercolor with a quick live demonstration of a "personal size" watermelon.

And then I made a watermelon feta salad with fresh mint from the garden and homemade balsamic dressing!

Nice Day for a Mow

If yesterday was gorgeous, then today was phenomenal! Spring is here! I had a lot of errands to run after teaching my class this morning, so I barely made it home in time for my Thursday afternoon Periscope. I got all set up, but the entire neighborhood was mowing their lawns! It sounded like a scene from a WWII airfield!

Eerily, they all stopped at once and I could proceed with a live watercolor demo of my iced green apple lemonade with frozen blackberries, and a sprig of mint. I got a lot of great suggestions for additional ingredients, too!
Cheers!

Grilled Cheese Sourdough and Tomato Basil Soup for Lunch Sketch

I just finished my Coffee Break Sketch live on Periscope. I finally got to eat my lunch! Although I had to microwave it to heat it up again, the toast still made a satisfying crunch around the melted cheese.

So much fun, sketching and chatting with old friends and new. Thanks for watching! See you all tomorrow at 4:30 pm Pacific time. Bring your old Kindle cases and make a sketchbook.

Most Delicious Grilled Cheese Sandwiches on the planet. How's that for a batch of great lunch ideas?

Boston Cream Pie for Dessert

Thanks for joining me for a Coffee Break Sketch at noon today on Periscope.tv/michelecoopart
It was lovely, chatting, sketching and visiting with people from all over the world today.

I always have the goal to take only 15 or 20 minutes for these quick sketches, but the conversation is so interesting that I end up slowing down. :) Still, if I missed any of your questions or comments, you can ask me here or on Instagram

Sketching these might literally end up in a "Crawl"

I am still shaking my head at those meals loaded on top of Bloody Marys that we saw at Lake Forest Bar & Grill. While participating in the World Wide Sketch Crawl on Saturday, I glanced over at an adjacent table and saw this! (My SD card went wacky, so more great photos are missing) But, really! Can this even be called a garnish?!

Turns out that there is a similar thing on Queen Ann at a bar called Sport.

CHONA KASINGER
Sport
Queen Anne
Every Sunday (at least during football season), this Seattle
Center-adjacent sports bar opens up a build-your-own
Bloody Bar stocked with 70 different ingredients designed
for AM alcohol consumption, including 32 different hot sauces.
I still think we stumbled upon the ultimate, though. Well, except
for a place in Milwaukee that has one
loaded with a whole fried chicken!
What kind of phenomenon IS this, anyway!
What's next? A whole suckling pig or a side of beef?
Here's a surprising list of Seattle places, including a petition for the day after Super Bowl to be National Hangover Day! Ha!
Now wouldn't THAT be an idea for a sketch crawl! Literally! (Tina thought of it first) I like it! There is a way to avoid actually crawling your way home: Nobody says you have to put alcohol in your drink. You can still pile an unseemly load of high sodium fried snacks on top of it and then sketch and munch, sketch and munch.

Poor, Liz Steel. I can just imagine her cringing about this as she tightens her grip on one of her tastefully elegant teacups and reaches for another cucumber sandwich.

EDiM 19 - A Cupcake

What can I say? Strawberry whipped cream frosting on a chocolate cupcake with chocolate shavings and a fresh strawberry on top.

EDiM - 4 Bottle(s) of Herbs or Spices

Years ago, I met a chef who gave me his recipe for bouillabaisse. It included a crucial ingredient, he told me; saffron. Since it was so expensive, I tried planting my own Saffron crocus. Fail. The flowers come up every year but I never get any threads* from them.
Square bottle of Saffron, Bay Leaves, Cordon Bleu Mixed Herbs for Pasta, Italian Herbs, Rosemary, Garlic & Sea  Salt, Vial of Saffron

*Saffron crocus grows to 20–30 cm (8–12 in) and bears up to four flowers, each with three vivid crimson stigmas, which are the distal end of a carpel. The styles and stigmas, called threads, are collected by hand and dried to be used mainly as a seasoning and coloring agent in food.

And for dessert we have........

And for dessert......
We have pie, of course! With all the talk of Pi Day being today, and the last date of its kind in a century, etc., etc., I unaccountably developed a sudden craving for pie. Evidently I have no resistance to subliminal suggestion.

It was a close call. I seriously considered getting out my perfect pie crust recipe, the ingredients and my rolling pin. But then you saw how that went last Sunday with the pancakes.

So we got a Bakery pie instead. Labeled "Berry Envy Pie", it has raspberries, marionberries, aronia berries and blueberries. Berry good!

AND I just managed to sketch the French Lavender ice cream before it slid down the pie! You can see the ice cream pre-avalanche in the sketch and post-avalanche in the trophy photo.

This is the back page of my 2015 Sketchbook Project. I have one more sketch to do and then I can send it off!
