New Online Zoom Watercolor Class in 8 Days

I see the studio mannequin is busy taking selfies for his Zoom profile.
Get ready, get set,.....Paint!

In just 8 days our brand new live online watercolor classes begin! The studio is all set up. I dove into the deep end of my crash course on teaching watercolor remotely. I’ve been practicing on Zoom with my students from previous classes. I’m sure there will be some adjustments to be made during the process of using an online format but we’re doing it!

It’s so wonderful seeing those smiling faces and hearing the voices we’ve been missing. Nothing can replace the experience of being there for an actual in person watercolor class as we have been accustomed to in the past. However, there is a certain personal perspective and relaxed comaraderie one can enjoy while learning in the shoeless classroom. We can safely be up close without a mask while looking over the details in a painting.

All the features of our usual watercolor class will be there: slide references, videos, Q&A, assignments to work on in class, time to work on your own and live demonstrations to watch. There will be group and private critiques. Some days we may even venture outdoors to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. When the day’s class is over, you don’t have to pack up and get in your car because you’re already home! If you miss a session you may access a recording, or just go back to review something you want to understand better.  The familiar class email with homework assignments will be sent after class as usual.

One day we will return to the Skylight Room and sit together side by side as we explore new ways to experience the world of watercolor. Meanwhile, come to class live online and indulge your creativity with a wonderful family of watercolor painting friends at Kirkland Arts Center.

ARTbeat 2017: Cirque du Surreal

I am pleased to announce my contribution of the painting "Mystic Reflections ", to Kirkland Arts Center for the fantastic 9th annual ARTbeat Benefit Auction & Gala.
The evening includes a delicious 3-course meal and complimentary wine and cocktails.
Date: Saturday October 28, 2017

"Mystic Reflections"  Original watercolor by Michele 15"x22" (22x28" framed and matted)
About the painting:
Distant headlands float on a milky layer of fog as rocky peaks along the shoreline appear above the mist. Rhythmic waves can be heard beneath that silky blanket, coming to rest in shining tide pools at your feet.

About the artist:
I view my painting experience as a "conversation with the light". It's a constant give and take during the hour or so that I spend on location. My desire is that, even without words, the viewer sees that there is room in this dialog for them, too.

I am a professional fine artist, working mainly in watercolor and occasionally in oil in the Seattle, WA area. I have been teaching watercolor since 1979. My work is in corporate and private collections internationally and has been published by Northlight Books and various art periodicals. My sketches on Flickr have been featured in "Explore" numerous times.  I am a blog correspondent for Seattle Urban Sketchers, and recently attended the 8th Annual USK Symposium in Chicago and the 7th Annual USK Symposium at University of Manchester, UK.

Beginning Watercolor Workshop Today and Tomorrow

After an introduction to basic watercolor methods, my students brought leaves from outside into the studio and painted these! Aren't they great?
Everyone is off to lunch, but you can see that they have begun building the Great Wall of Art!
We are definitely making inroads on the first pad of watercolor paper! Return for updates tomorrow!

Fantastic Art Found in 100 year old Building

News Flash! A fantastic collection of original art was discovered at the end of this mornings' Intermediate watercolor class in the Skylight Studio of the Kirkland Arts Center.
The results below are the collection of results at the end of today's watercolor lesson with Michele Cooper.

Ed note: I used pre designed magazine covers from an app called Moldiv to present these paintings.
I think they are amazing!

ATC swap on Friday at KAC

First, I asked everyone to select a card for anonymous trade. We placed them all face down and picked one at random. Then I told everyone that they could trade any extras that they brought with their friends. After that, everything is kind of a blur. Anyway, here is an idea of the wonderful art that goes on in our Intermediate class on Fridays, just for fun!
Painted at home and in class. Wonderful!
Then people brought out ATCs from their personal cache.
More cards from personal trades.

Now for the Friday class and their ATCs!

Just when you think you can't be amazed any further, the Intermediate Class gets busy on the ATC assignment. Look what they produced in class at the Kirkland Arts Center today!

Well, gotta get back to tidying up the studio! The 20th Annual Studio Open House is tomorrow. Hope you can come! Hours: 10am-7pm (Wine and Cheese from 5-7pm)

Intro to Watercolor II at KAC

Here is our busy classroom today as we worked on mixing color, getting texture, glazing, wet in wet and more.

Students learned how to intensify color without getting "mud" while having fun with water drops, goldfish and an old red barn. If you zoom in, I think you just might see some of the results.

Intro to Watercolor II, Winter, 2014

Here's the instructor's view of our busy classroom on Saturday for my Intro to WC II workshop.
We worked all day until the room was full of color swatches, brushwork exercises, color wheels, greeting card crocus (croci, crocii, crocuses; all are correct for the plural according to the dictionary) and a shoreline landscape with figures, a boat and a kite at the end.
There was even a drawing where Gail won her choice of 3 fun art sets. Congratulations, Gail!

Join us for the next one April 26 and May 24 at Kirkland Arts Center. All new projects and skills to learn each time you come.

Yesterday's "class portrait"--Autumn Leaves

We filled a whole table top with autumn leaves at my Intro to Watercolor II workshop at Kirkland Arts Center yesterday.
We had so much fun, one more workshop has been added for 2013. It's called a "Pop Up" workshop, somewhat on the order of "pop up restaurants". It's not on the regular catalog, but if we have a minimum enrollment, we can do it. It would be held on Sunday, Dec 1, 2013 from 10-4 at Kirkland Arts Center.

Designed for absolute beginners, no previous experience necessary, all materials provided.

Want to come? Please email me: michele at michelecooper dot com for more information, price, etc.
