New Workshop Announcement for Beginning Sketchers-Sept. 22

If you missed my recent USK 10x10 First Steps into Visual Journaling Workshop, it’s not too late!

Saturday, September 22, urban sketchers and Historic Seattle come together for a day of sketching in the Meridian Park neighborhood.

Learn to sketch step by step

Learn the joy of sketching – and a new way to appreciate the historic buildings you love! This class is designed for inexperienced sketchers or those who have been away from their art for a while.
Instructor Michele Cooper will help you take your first steps into urban sketching using simple tools and practical tips that anyone can follow. Michele will demonstrate techniques, then you’ll try them. Perfection is not required. You’ll learn to combine basic drawing, writing, lettering shortcuts, and ephemera for a fun day on location with your urban sketchbook. These skills can be adapted to fill your nature and travel journals, too.
The workshop will begin indoors at the Good Shepherd Center, later the group will move outside to practice sketching the exterior of the Good Shepherd Center and its grounds.
The workshop is filling fast, but as of today there are a few spots left.
Follow this link for the workshop description, location and registration information. https://historicseattle.org/event/learn-to-sketch-workshop/

After the workshop, please join Urban Sketchers Seattle for an optional “sketchcrawl” (2:30 – 5 PM) at Meridian Park to have more fun practicing your new skills!

Where Shall I drop this Urban Sketch?

We have an exciting weekend in urban sketching ahead! First, I'll be teaching my 10x10 USK Workshop on First Steps into Visual Journaling on Saturday. The workshop is sold out but I will be posting some tips and hints in the next few days and after the workshop as well. Follow me here and on Instagram. Set up alerts so you can see a real time hint when I drop this piece.

I'm hoping some of my students will be enthused with their new confidence and urban sketching skills and come to the monthly outing on Sunday at Wallingford Center. I'll be there to cheer you on!

So where shall I drop this? On Saturday or Sunday? I could use some suggestions to overcome my dilemma. Update: OK, tomorrow it is, Sunday the 20th at Wallingford Center sometime during the monthly sketch outing. Come join us for urban sketching in Seattle!
Going to abandon this greeting card with sketch print on the coming weekend during USK event.

More Details on my two new Urban Sketching Workshops

Intro to URBAN SKETCHING Skagit Valley College (Mount Vernon Campus)

I am very excited to announce two NEW workshops on urban sketching where I can introduce you to some of my favorite sketching tips, locations and experiences. Every level of experience is welcome, but each workshop is particularly designed as an introduction for those who want to know what it's all about but haven't really tried urban sketching on their own. Or maybe you just need a little guidance on what to sketch and how to use your equipment.

Urban sketching might seem intimidating at first, but there’s a whole world of subject matter out there just waiting to inspire you. In each workshop, we’ll explore a number of different ways to approach sketching both in the city and in the countryside. You’ll learn how to create a simple, compact and inexpensive sketch kit, easy methods of sketching people, street scenes, marinas, gardens, markets, farms and more. Learn to do what other urban sketchers do when the weather turns against you by setting yourself up in a cafe window, a park shelter, a mass transit seat or in a museum. Instruction, hands on practice, outdoor sketching.

We'll start in the classroom for demonstrations, hands on practice and orientation. Then we go out on location to try out your new skills. Each day of each workshop will offer different locations in and around the Mount Vernon and La Conner area. Part of one day of each workshop features riding and sketching on the bus! (bus fare included with the workshop!)
Lunchtime will be one hour plus time to commute to the next location. Lunch Day One on your own, Day Two Cafe sketching in class (bring lunch money).
Location maps, materials list and complete schedule sent by email upon registration
